This listing is for one 1.25" button with proud pink psychedelic lettering of the slogan 'Pigasus 2024 - Bringing Home The Bacon.'
Pigasus was a 145 lb domestic pig that was nominated for President of the United States in 1968 by the Youth International Party (Yippies), a satirical political organization co-created by Abbie Hoffman. One reason why the Yippies preferred Pigasus was that "if we can't have him in the White House, we can have him for breakfast."
Just before the opening of the 1968 Democratic National Convention, at a rally announcing his candidacy, Pigasus was seized by Chicago policemen and several of his Yippie backers (including Jerry Rubin) were arrested for disorderly conduct. After their arrest, a policeman came to the Yippies' jail cell and said "You guys are all going to jail for the rest of your lives—the pig squealed on you!"
Pigasus and the Yippies were charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and bringing a pig to Chicago. At the resulting trial, defense counsel William Kunstler accused the Democratic Party of doing exactly the same thing.
And in 2024, let it be as it was in 1968. Now is the time for all good pigs to come to the aid of their country. It's time for us to put a swine - an honest swine - in the White House!
