HIGHLIGHTS: Wow! This Chevelle is a beauty! Two-family, three-owner car! You'd be hard pressed to find another real-deal, numbers-matching SS in this condition and price range. This Chevelle is a blast to drive, and will make a great addition to anyone's collection!
BODY OVERVIEW: The body on this Chevelle is clean and straight, with all original sheet metal in place. Even the floor pans appear original! Purchased by the current owner from the original family in 2014, still wearing its original paint and in drivable but unrestored condition, it's no surprise this car is as straight as it is.
PAINT CONDITION OVERVIEW: The paint really makes this Chevelle stand out! It is wearing its first and only repaint in the correct original color of Golden Brown. The paint job was completed in 2017, and it looks fantastic! The car was stripped to bare metal during this process. It may not be as eye-catching as a red or orange, but this color looks great on this body style of Chevelle and suits it well. This car has been used carefully since the paint was applied, and the lack of imperfections in the paint support this.
INTERIOR CONDITION OVERVIEW: Tan interiors may not be everyone's cup of tea, but we can't think of a better color choice to match the Golden Brown exterior. In the last few years, the seats have been recovered and the dash pad has been replaced. New carpet was installed with Dynamat underneath. It even has A/C and a retro-look modern radio! The only notable area that hasn't been restored is the door panels, which are currently on backorder. The door panels are in surprisingly good original condition, but they are showing some aging as can be seen in the photos.
MECHANICAL OVERVIEW: We cannot stress enough how mechanically satisfying this Chevelle is! The factory original 402 big block was completely gone through and given some minor upgrades as well. The engine was totally rebuilt 3 years ago, bored .030" over, and has all new parts minus the crankshaft which was in good condition and reinstalled. The engine builder estimates about 450HP, but the engine has not been put on a dyno. Engine upgrades include MSD fuel injection, Kooks headers, mufflers, and full custom Kooks exhaust, Vintage Air A/C system, and dual electric fans.
But wait, there's more! Other performance upgrades include the following:
-Wilwood power disc brakes
-Detroit Speed suspension
-New wiring
The power meets the road through a TH400 3 speed automatic transmission and a 12 bolt rear end with 3.73 gears. Thanks to the practical performance upgrades, this SS drives better than any Chevelle did from the factory and is truly a pleasure to pilot!
WHAT YOU'LL LOVE ABOUT THIS CAR: Other than it being an original 402 big block SS? The paperwork. This car has the original window sticker, shipment form, and of course the warranty card and Protect-O-Plate.
WHAT YOU MIGHT HATE ABOUT THIS CAR: The Golden Brown color looks great to us, but some folks really feel the need for a brighter color.
DOES IT NEED ANYTHING? The only item we noted as inoperable was the temperature gauge (it operates, but pegs at hot). Fortunately, the MSD system in the glove compartment displays an accurate reading.
